A Handful Of Poems, By Hazel Marsay

Rare Bird

LITTLE BIRD SO SWEET AND RARE.
WOULD BUT I SET YOU FREE.
 YOU WOULD FLY SO HIGH,
IN THE SKY. IF IT WERE UP TO ME.

BUT YOU MUST STAY WITHIN YOUR PRISON.
AND I MUST KEEP THE KEY.
I WONDER WOULD YOU THINK OF ME.
WERE I TO SET YOU FREE.

LITTLE BIRD YOU SING SO SWEETLY.
 MANY ARE YOUR CHARMS.
I,DE LIKE TO OPEN UP YOUR DOOR,
AND FREE YOU FROM ALL HARM.

LITTLE BIRD YOU COULD NOT BE SAFE,
 IN THE CRUEL WORLD OUTSIDE.
THAT’S WHY I KEEP YOU IN YOUR CAGE.
IT’S A PLACE FOR YOU TO HIDE.
